Claire, Abigail, Justin and I were invited to Columbia for a Donor’s Ceremony by Shawn’s mother and sister. This was an exciting and emotional day and there is no way I could ever describe to you how I felt but I am going to try. First of all Rita, his sister and I have been chatting on-line and via e-mail then she started talking about the ceremony and ask if we would like to come. You see we were not notified of the event because it was just for the donor’s family, but Mrs. Bissell and Rita included us in their family, God is awesome working things out that we have never thought of. Rita had requested our shirt sizes as they had shirts printed with Shawn’s picture on it and each of us could proudly wear them at the ceremony. We drove down the morning of the ceremony and waited on the front porch of the First Baptist Church of Columbia. Rita then called me as they neared the location and the tension grew; I could not believe I was fixing to meet the mother and sister of my donor, two people that loved Shawn dearly, the family that chose to give me another chance at life in one of their darkest moments. God has been a part of this all along as Shawn’s family is a strong Christian family and servants of God. When they arrived we could not wait any longer so we went and meet them in the grass it was such a peaceful time and unbelievable. Mrs. Bissell was not able to walk the many steps into the huge church, so we went to an elevator where she was given a wheel chair to make the traveling easier on her. You know God was in all of this because it worked out that I got to push Mrs. Bissell and while I was pushing her a calmness came over me and a thought, here I am here with Shawn’s mother and there was Shawn up in heaven with my mother. We attend the service that was just awesome and while the ceremony was ongoing I thought of all these hundreds of people I am sharing this sanctuary with; is one of the most giving groups of people I have ever been around, because each person there gave the Gift of Life through their loved one. We then all went to break bread together, hamburgers and hot dogs no I did not eat the buns or the chips. We had the opportunity to share around the table with these two great ladies and make pictures. We all know that all great things must come to end; so this wonderful time together came to an end. We said our good byes and as we parted ways we grew closer together, God gave us an awesome day together. We are planning a weekend with the rest of our families soon as we will be traveling to Lumberton, NC where Shawn grew up and where his family resides today. May God Bless Shawn’s memories and his family and friends.

OK I have made yet another trip to Charleston, this time it was a solo trip. I had an appointment for another picture of my chest and a visit with my pulmonologist. The issues with these appointments were they started at 7:30 am so I went down on Thursday evening. The evening was uneventful but morning came early. I went over to Rutledge Tower and had the chest x-ray and that left just enough time to get to the 5th floor. I arrived there and the registrar was asking all of her confusing question, when a nurse who had not had her coffee yet came from the back. In one of those loud and hat on to tight nurse voices yelled PELHAM MEDLOCK at that point I was afraid to answer. Since there was only one other person in the waiting room and that was a lady I figured I had to answer up, she then demanded me to follow her and I said yes mam. I followed her into a room that was large, in this room sitting all alone next to the wall was the one piece of equipment a fat boy hates, the scales. I of course removed my boots’ against the advice of the drill sergeant. She punched some buttons and demand me to remain still, the machine then manufactured some lies. The nurse then glared at me until I hurriedly put my boots back on and not caring at this point if they were on the correct foot. She then escorted me deep inside the building until we arrived at a room, I was unsure what was about to happen but once again she started with her trick questions. She then in an ever so pleasant voice said the doctor will see you now but I had to follow her to another room. The good doctor listened to my lungs and said they sounded great and after a short fight with the computer the doctor said my X-rays were clear. He then ask me if I had any problems; I said well the only thing I notice was being a little short of breath when I walk a lot or up an incline; he quickly advised me that if I would lose some weight my breathing would get better, so I said yes sir, he then said I could go and call him if I need him. I was out of the office by 9:00 am and then discovered that the Charleston Crab House did not open till 11:00 am. I then walked around and found a coffee house that was open so I ate breakfast and off to my highlight of any Charleston trip, North Market and Anson streets so I could thank God for my gift, pay my respect to Shawn’s memory and pray for Shawn’s family, now part of my family and friends. I left Charleston with no Shrimp N Grits; I guess the doctor would have been proud if he only knew.

A couple of weeks later I had to go to my doctor in Anderson and he said well I see you have been to Charleston and the doctor told you to lose weight, I dropped my head and said yeah but he then added that my weight was the same as the last time I was in his office, so I gave him a half of smile. He checked me over well and we talked about a couple of spots on my forehead and a mole that turned black on my back; he referred me to a dermatologist to have these looked at. He stated that I did not have to come back to see him for six weeks. This news made me so happy so I went to celebrate and what better way to celebrate than with food; then my Charleston doctor’s visit came to mind so I stopped and ate a salad and drank a glass of water, yum yum.

OK a few days passed and just my luck they got me right in the dermatologist but the doctor was no available so I saw the nurse practitioner. She walks in all happy and ask what can she do for me so I showed her the two spots on my forehead and then the mole on my back, she said the spots were probably from the Prograf and the mole would have to be sent off to pathology. She then walked to the back of the room returning quite rapidly with a plastic shield and a device that was similar to a gun but it was attached to a can. She said all we need to do it freeze these two spots and at that moment the cold burning started and I could see that grin on her face almost burst to laughter; she then disappeared to rear of the room. I grew uncomfortable knowing the last time she disappeared to the rear of the room she returned with a vengeance. This time she said there will be a sting and sure enough right in the back and she said that’s it; I felt this was a misleading statement due to the lack of pain I felt on my back compared to the attack on my forehead. She then said we will call you with the pathology report; the nurse placed a bandage on my back and off I went. I thought this would be a perfect time to celebrate so I started thinking where the celebration meal should be. I dove around town and thought about Little Pigs and how good that would be and then I thought back to Charleston and the doctor saying I needed to lose weight so I ate a salad and drank a glass of water, yum yum. About three days pasted and I got a message from the nurse practitioner that my pathology report came back as not cancer but unusual and I needed to come back to the office so the doctor could remove more of the mole. One week later I arrived and the doctor and nurse came in and they discussed some things behind my back and the doctor agreed with the nurse they could take a little plug out. The doctor said you will feel a sting and a few minutes later the nurse said he is putting in the first of 5 stitches. The nurse then said here is what he took out and sure enough it was a plug about the size of a pencil and about a quarter of an inch long; they called this a little on, sure would hate for them to take a big one out. I had to return in 9 days to have the stitches removed and receive the report, the stitches came out with a little resistance but the nurse prevailed with minimal pain to me. The pathology report was then read to me and through all of the six and four cylinder words I finally understood that it was benign, benine Possum Kingdom spelling. The doctor sent me away and said to call if I needed him or in a year whatever came first; you know this time I was happy but decided just to skip the celebratory meal and just eat a salad and drink some water.

Well now I was feeling better all except needing to lose some weight to please the doctor in Charleston. Claire reminded me for about the second year in a row she started the idea about how much fun it would be to go camping; remember we are talking about a West Pelzer girl who the closest to camping was staying at her parents lake house. Then what do you know ole Al and Glenda started talking about getting a camper, I knew this must be a conspiracy. Al and Glenda really gave me the support I needed, they went and bought a camper; yeah thanks Al. Well now that just set Clair off and the hunt was on for that perfect camper. We now own a large share of the IWANA and the prices of some of those RVs from 5th wheel to motor homes. Claire and I then went riding to look at some RVs, I figured I needed to do whatever damage control I could and we found the perfect 1998 28’ Wilderness tagalong, with no slides; yea that was another battle I won, so we now own a camper. I know you are thinking that Claire and Abigail won but that is not what happened. I got to thinking about all of the blessings God has given me and the multiply chances at life God has given me and I thought it would be bad if I did not agree to something that would be fun for the whole family.

A couple of weeks went by and you know me and how I love attention; I got up on Friday morning feeling great, it was one of those nice spring mornings. I decided to service my truck, lawn mower and gator and then time to go get Abigail, but I did not feel well. I went in the house and thought if I ate something I would feel better, wrong that did not help. The pain was in the right upper side of my stomach you know right where the liver sits. I sat in the house and whined and complained of pain, so about 7:00 pm Claire gave me two of my pain pills that I usually only take one. 8:00 pm rolled around and the pain was so severe I gave in and allowed her to drive me to AnMed’s ER, it was there that other pains started. You know all of the trick questions and ask if you use drugs that kind of stuff. Of course they cannot ask question without sticking things in your mouth and creating new opening such as a large bore IV in your arm, then they ask you what your pain level is, yeah you know what I am talking about. Anyway after all of this and some drugs that made the pain gooooo away, they wanted to make pictures so off I go to have a CT scan. OK what was the end result, I just needed a drink of water; yelp that’s right all of that just to tell me I was thirsty, ok dehydrated. You know I have been thirsty before and got a drink of water, remember even with my salads but to go through all of that just to tell me I was thirsty. I guess just to make it sound better and charge more they said I was dehydrated and the drink they gave me was through that large bore IV. The next time I am whining and in a level 9 pain scale just offer me a drink of water, that may be all I need. One other thing that they found while doing the CT was that I had a mild to moderate plural effusion in my left lung. Well I guess we will have to see what happens next, funny though I think of shortness of breath, I think of salads and then I think of a drink of water through a new hole in my arm, I can’t wait to explain those complains to the next nurse who wants to ask tricky questions.

Well that brings you up to date in short form I am going to do better at posting and for all of you Monday morning blog checkers, this is for you but I really Thank Each One of You for caring and praying.

While scripting this blog posting I received a phone call from a very special friend and brother, who delivered me some news; that being that our brother Mike Hunt went home to heaven today, Mike fought a great battle and now he has won. I know that Mike knew that no matter what happened he was going to win and today Jesus welcomed him home. You know Jesus said he has gone to prepare a place for each of us and when it is ready he will return again to get each of us Christian. Can you wait for Jesus to say welcome home, you know to be absent of the body is to be present with God. Please pray for Brother Mike’s family and remember God has stopped all of his suffering and gave him that new and perfect body. I sure am looking forward to seeing Brother Mike again and I know I will, do you know that you will, if not make things right, ask Jesus into your heart and you too will be saved. God Bless The Mike Hunt family, firefighting family and friends.

Good Afternoon,

You know that sometimes the biggest problems are just operator errors. Today however it was not all my fault. See I use Fire Fox as my browser and therefore that is the easiest browers for me to post through. Internet Explorer, you see is very jealous and being that if I post through Fire Fox, IE will just decide to mess things up so it looks bad on me. The other part of the blame is operator error, why? Well because I knew that and I posted anyway in Fire Fox, so IE got me back it just caused a big malfunction on my blog. I had to go and deleat the posting I did in Fire Fox and recreat it in IE. Oh well as we all know the old saying, there is more than one way to skin a cat, as my ole buddy Larry says, the cat might not like it but we just ain’t gonna ask the cat and with that being said the post is complete.

God Bless You,

Monday, January 26, 2009

Pelham Medlock Jr. stood solemnly near the City Market. He bowed his head and quietly prayed as carriage horses clopped past and tourists bustled through the heart of Charleston’s visitor hub.

He stared at the pavement near the corner of North Market and Anson streets earlier this month, whispering prayerful thanks to a man he never knew.

Police still do not know the identity of the man Shawn Bissell struggled with before he died two years ago.

Shawn Bissell’s life ended at this spot two years ago in what police consider a freak accident. It left him unconscious and brain-dead but preserved his healthy organs.

Although questions still linger in Bissell’s death — his fatal fall came, in part, at the hands of an unidentified man police couldn’t locate — his family’s decision to donate his organs gave Medlock and others new lives.

Medlock was dying from a non-alcohol-related form of cirrhosis when the phone in his Upstate home rang Jan. 28, 2007. It was his wife’s birthday, and she was opening presents. But the news on the other end of the line announced a gift for him: a new liver.

“I tell myself that this was God’s will,” said Medlock, a former arson investigator in Anderson County. “Shawn had done what God sent him here to do, and for whatever reason, my time is not yet done.”

Medlock, who has struck up an e-mail connection with Bissell’s sister, Rita Batten, still travels to Charleston regularly for check-ups. After his appointments at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he received the transplant, he heads for the City Market, to pray. “I often wonder what people around me think. I guess I don’t care. It’s the part of the trip I look forward to,” he said.

Saving others

Barbara Melvin’s kidney was failing from a disorder, and the Fayetteville, N.C., woman’s wait for a donor was estimated at five years. She was steeling herself to begin grueling dialysis treatments when the call came out of the blue. It was Jerry and Rita Batten calling, a couple she’d known for years through her work as director of the North Carolina Indian Housing Authority.

To offer tips

If you have any information concerning the Jan. 27, 2007, scuffle in the Charleston City Market that led to the death of Shawn Bissell, call Charleston police at 843-577-7434 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.

Batten’s younger brother, Bissell, had died in a fall in Charleston. The Battens knew Melvin was very sick. They wanted her to have one of Shawn’s kidneys.

Melvin thinks that accepting the gift came with a sacred duty to share her life with Bissell’s family. “I feel close to him even though I never knew him. He is still alive through us,” she said.

An unidentified man in his 50s received Bissell’s heart. Another person received his other kidney.

Seeing the joy that Shawn Bissell’s final gift brought to others helps Batten deal with the loss. She helped raise him, coddled him to sleep when he was colicky.

“It helped me tremendously with the pain of losing him. Now I have people I can talk to who are so exceedingly grateful,” she said.

But she still struggles to understand Bissell’s death.

Lingering questions

It was just after 2 a.m. Jan. 27, 2007. The downtown bars had just closed and people poured onto the sidewalks.

Bissell and a friend were leaving a bar near the City Market when they heard a man and woman arguing nearby. Bissell tried to intervene on the woman’s behalf. The other man told Bissell to mind his own business. Both men raised their fists and clashed near the sidewalk. Bissell stumbled backward in the scuffle. His head struck the pavement. He lay motionless as onlookers gathered.

The Charleston police officer who took the call left the scene 21 minutes later. He took only one witness statement, never located the mystery man in the scuffle and turned away other witnesses who offered their own accounts.

In February 2007, after The Post and Courier inquired about the department’s handling of the case and located new witnesses, investigators renewed efforts to find the mystery man and any witnesses they might have overlooked. But those efforts did not turn up any new details, and the Solicitor’s Office later decided no crime had been committed.

Police said this week that they still don’t know the identity of the man Bissell struggled with or the woman Bissell tried to protect. Bissell’s case is closed pending any new information or witnesses, police public information officer Charles Francis said.

Bissell’s childhood friend, David Alexander, always figured someone would come forward. Maybe his friend’s death still would be ruled an accident, but knowing more details might bring Bissell’s family closure.

“I thought that the girl would come forward. Shawn was trying to defend her. He basically died for her. How do you go through life knowing somebody gave their life for you?” Alexander said.

Medlock and Melvin know exactly what that’s like.

Good Evening My Dear Family & Friends,
Well I know it has been a very long time since I last spoke with you and for that I am sorry, but I have a reason. The reason is I have been bad and I got put on restriction, yelp just like a teenager. What am I talking about? I am so glad you ask because I really want to tell you, of course you know me so it will be short. I was very excited about a new service that I am involved in, that being an offsite, secure, automated backup service with Atlantic Computers. You know any good marketing ideas must be demonstrated so I was working with all the features and conducted a backup of my note book. That was the beginning of my restriction, you see in the fine print of the agreement with WildBlue.net I agreed not to violate the fair access policy. Yelp it was in the fine print but I did not read it I just check that box that said I Agree, you know that box. WildBlue.net being a satellite service will only allow me to download 17G and upload 5G in any 30 days. These 30 days are figured such as a sliding scale of 30 days not billing period. The end result was they sent me a warning e-mail on December 9 so I called pretty upset because my speed was about half of what it had been. I expressed my feelings and told them that I expected my speeds to be restored because now I know and I will be more careful. In the matter of hours my speeds were restored. Then on December 11 I received yet another e-mail explaining that my speeds were going to be slowed because I had violated the fair access policy. Well this time I was very upset set because you see my normal speeds are about 120k up and 1.5m down. This time they slowed my speeds to 20 to 30 k up and about 125k down. I advised them that I could not understand why after the warning and my talk my speeds were restored and then two days later they cut me way back. It was concluded that the first time my speeds dropped was the weather so my little talk really did not do any good. This time I keep going up the ladder requesting that someone could reset my speeds. I had climbed the service tree at WildBlue.net and got nowhere. I then ask to speak with someone from corporate, but they would not contact me, so after the second request and me advising them that they needed to understand that I was out of my contract and my $80.00 a month should mean something. I then waited and was informed once again that nothing could be done and corporate has never returned my request. I then started my research once again to find another IP so I could prove to WildBlue.net that I could carry my business somewhere else. I am now going to share with you the conclusion of my research, I am 4000’ to far away for Charter Cable and AT&T tell me to hang on DSL is coming, so to you WildBlue.net I will keep my service as of now and watch my every item I upload or download.
Well I hope your Christmas was awesome for us here in Possum Kingdom it was ole Santa Clause came once again, sure seems like the rules are a little more lax than they were when I was a kid. Abigail did get a Wii and that has been a challenge for me but so far I have cause no physical damage to anything inside the house. In case you don’t remember when Abigail & I went to visit Justin last year, I was bowling and Leroy, Justin’s dog, came over and sat down just as I was working on a strike. In stead I hit Leroy in the nose and I did not have the lanyard on so the remote flew across the room striking the TV. The TV was fine, Leroy’s nose was sore but the remote was busted on the rechargeable battery side. The game is just awesome and will give you a real workout, because you have to be so interactive. We got to spend time with our family, we went by to visit Mama Holiday as she is still in the bed suffering from Alzheimer’s. We as a family got together several times to eat and eat.
The New Year has got off to a great start and I had to travel down to Charleston to see Dr. Wilner, my liver doctor, he was so pleased with everything as far as the liver was concerned that he has put me on a yearly checkup with him. Dr. DeRosimo, my thoracic surgeon, has release me and he sees no fluid in my chest on the last two chest x-rays. I now have to go back to Charleston in March to see Dr. Sahn, my lung doctor, to see what he thinks. I am trying to catch something right now I think it is just a cold.
I am not sure what you may think about the weather but here in Possum Kingdom it is just plain cold. You know it’s bad when you have to send out messages to tell people to warm up their scraps so the Possums can stay warm. Yesterday I went to the road and discovered a new specialty in Possum Kingdom and that being we now had Possumsickles , you know that’s the one that did not make it across the road on a very cold night, the tail makes a great stick to hold it by.
Well the hour is late and I must go take a nap.
God Bless You,

Happy Thanksgiving!

I trust and hope you spent time with your family and friends on this very special day. You know the weeks and days that lead up to Thanksgiving really causes people to stress out, worry about the food, worry about all the people visiting, worry, worry, worry.

I want to share with you Thanksgiving in Possum Kingdom and how we shared around the table with family and how I have a new branch of family that I can only try to share my love and thanks for each one of them, Shawn Bissell’s Family.

The holiday comes in Possum Kingdom the same day it does all across America, I know that was a shock for some of you. Well we started about two weeks ago with a meeting in the driveway. I don’t think everyone got the memo but the majority of us there agreed Thanksgiving was coming, so the plans started. Who was at the meeting? I am glad you ask, Claire, Abigail, Anthony, Meleeda and Hailey well she was asleep so her input was muted. Oh yeah Rebel, Samson and Princess but they just had a bone on their minds. Well with the meeting of the minds one thing had to be decided on and that was were to have the eating, so we voted and the fact that Daddy & Deda was not present it was decided that the eating would be at their house at 12:00pm on Thanksgiving Day. With the approaching holiday the air grew tense, well at least with me because we had no plan and this was serious because we are talking a big eating and no food was even talked about. Then the call came through at the last moment Claire and Deda talked and they planed what other people should bring, it was looking up. Then Meleeda got in on the conversation and more vittles were planned for other people. I am not sure what sort of input Kim and Vickie had but vittles were brewing. There was only one problem with the brewing and that was all I was hearing was deserts and vegetables, who is fixing the meat. Out of mere panic I said OK, OK I will cook, smoke a turkey. Claire then thinking that she did not want to be out done she said, real prissy like, I will fix a turkey breast in my rotisserie oven. So the challenge was on, Man vs. turkey. The weeks turned into days and the days into hours and you could tell in Possum Kingdom Thanksgiving was coming. I knew this was an important task I had taken on, the center piece of Thanksgiving was the turkey and I just could not let Claire out do me. I knew I would have to sharp on my game because she would cheat, you know she knows how to read and she reads recipes and she can cook and she has friends that can cook. That was OK because I know how to eat and I have proved this all of my life, just look at me do you think I got this way on tofu? I had a secret that was sure to bring me out as a clear winner and that was Alton. Who is Alton? Well lets just call him a great friend that’s in the know. I cleverly contacted Alton and he responded with some awesome ideas. He talked about using a brine and all of the wonderful taste that would bring to the table, he also talked about smoking a turkey at just the right heat. Alton was full of ideas he even talked about fixing a honey glaze to baste the turkey with; Alton even prepared a turkey for me to see just how to do it. Of course I was paying attention but I forgot my notebook but I thought I could remember. Claire went to the store with our list in hand to buy all the goodies to cook the turkey. With all of the items we needed at the house it was time to get started. I once again turned to Alton, you know Alton Brown on the Food Network and reality set in, Alton would go shopping, return with all of the correct items, prepare and cook the turkey and sit down to eat in most shows under 30 minutes. Reality sometimes will hit at the worst time for me it was when Justin said Daddy I have figured the time it will take to smoke this turkey and it is 13 ½ hours. OK so the pressure has started and we would have to skip the brine. We would have to just season and hurry and get it to smoking. We got the turkey prepare and resting on the smoker at about 10:00pm Wednesday night. That meant cooking all night and hopefully it would be done by dinner time 12:00pm Thursday. Cooking all night was OK because AnneMiller has cooked an awesome cinnamon bread, so the eating could happen all night. Justin and I also constructed a square container around the smoker so we could keep our temperature up on the smoker and the turkey would be ready for 12:00pm Thanksgiving Dinner. What about the turkey breast Claire was fixing you ask, well let me tell you since she was using the rotisserie she figured that about 1 hour and 45 minutes the turkey breast would be done. With this time in mind she then decided that she would use the brine since I had no time. Well back to the smoker Justin and I were up until 1:00am and I arose again at 4:00am and 8:00am to check on the turkey. Claire, she was in la la land since about 11:00pm. She awoke from her slumber about 8:30am and gracefully removed the turkey breast from the brine and by 9:00am she had it a cooking and just as she planned about 11:00am after letting it rest I sliced the turkey breast and placed it on a plate that she had prepared. I then returned to retrieve the turkey from the smoker and about 11:45am I was fixing to carved and plate the turkey, but suddenly realized that something had gone wrong, the turkey was not fully cooked. It was to be presented in 15 minutes what was I to do! I had to call and admit defeat that we was going to be late due to the fact that my planning had failed. Oh well you all know I don’t wear a watch anyway and yelp we was late but do you think anyone really expected me to be on time? It was a quick fix I put the turkey in a 400F oven for about 40 minutes and it was done. The dinner was just awesome every one brought their best vittles and all of us were rubbing our bellies after the meal. Claire fixed PaPa Drake a plate and off to the lake we went or at least what use to be Lake Hartwell to visit with PaPa. PaPa was so glad to see us and we were excited to visits with him but as you know all good things must end, so we returned to Possum Kingdom. We had an awesome Thanksgiving and I hope yours was as well, Claire enjoyed it so much when she go in the house she went unconscious in her chair. I have a picture but I value my life to much to put it on line.

Now I want to be serious for a moment and ask you what do you have to be Thankful for? Well while you are thinking about that I am going to tell you just some of the things I am thankful for.
I am Thankful to God for sending Jesus Christ to die on the cross for me. I am Thankful for Mama and Daddy and the Godly example they set for Meleeda and me, so many times we thought they were dumb but they were so right. I am Thankful that God put Deda in our lives after he called Mama home. Deda is a blessing to Daddy and all of the family. Deda also brought her family and we now join together as one big happy family. I am Thankful for my cirrhosis of the liver, because God has reopened my eyes and made me know that he is in charge but God also gave me another whole new family. God has expanded my family with the addition of this wonderful family, the family of Shawn Bissell. I have made a promise to always keep my gift healthy and most of all keep Shawn’s memory alive through me with God getting all the praise and glory. Our families are really growing as Rita and I have exchanged information and are learning more about our families with each passing exchange. I am Thankful that God has allowed our families to reach out to each other and be welcomed and join together as loving families do. I am Thankful to be an American and for all of the military and their families past and present, for all they do to keep my families safe. I am Thankful that God has allowed me the honor to serve and protect our community. I am Thankful to you for reading my blog, time and time again and you putting up with me crying on your shoulder or trying to make funny, when a rock would have more humor. I am Thankful for all of the things I take for granted and never thank God for.

I had to take a break and take my 8:30pm medication; you know my medication is like giving a couple of kids a popsicles so they play well together. The great thing is we get along just fine.
I know I am not the only one with this issue but after Thanksgiving means Christmas shopping is a must. Since Claire does not prefer to shop, Abigail and I will produce gifts of all shapes and sizes. By the end of the season every name will be marked off the list and the gifts people receive may not fit or they may not even like them but hey they got a gift right!

OK I know you hate it as much as I do but it is time to go. Thanks for being here for me and Thanks for being my friend.

We must say good night and God Bless You,

Here is a picture of a man I have never talked to, one who was a friend to many and one who cherished his family. This 42 year old man had his whole life ahead of him, he was a carpenter, contractor, kind hearted, peace keeper but most important of all he was a Christian. This man has been characterized as one who would help anyone at any time. This man was not a neighbor of mine, he and I did not go to school together and as far as I know our paths have never crossed until late January 2007. The day our paths crossed forevermore changed my life and my family’s lives, his life and his family’s lives. This man, even though his life on earth was over, gave the Gift of Life to me, a stranger, who now will keep his memory alive. I will forevermore be indebted for the Gift he gave me, a stranger. You know I look at that smile on his face and it is as if he is telling me; he gladly gave this Gift to me. I want Shawn and his family to know I will cherish this Gift and will never forget the miracle God gave me when he called Shawn home. I will always take care of my Gift. You may also here me refer to, our check up went well, or we don’t feel good, you will know I am remembering Shawn. You know I have to stop and wonder why God took Shawn with great health and left me with my bad liver, you know all I can understand is that was God’s will, his plan and Shawn and I were a part of that plan. I want us all to praise God for his love, his will and guidance through life’s entire journey. I just want to say Thank You Shawn and Thank You to all of his family and friends. I have the honor of communicating with his sister Rita and what a special lady she is. She has opened her brother’s life and her entire family’s life up to me and my family so we will know more about this loving family that gave me, a stranger the Gift of Life.

You know I hope as you read this posting that you not only will see the love that has been shared with me but you will see the love Jesus has for each of us, but you must understand that the first most important act you can ever make for yourself and secure your future, is to repent of you sins and ask Jesus into your life. Once your future is secured with Jesus, then consider, once your life here on earth is over to give that Gift of Life even to a stranger.

I know you have been praying for my Donor Family, now you can remember them by name in your prayers.

Thank You,

God Bless You,

I want to start this posting off with a great big thank you to all Veterans and the service they have given to our country. You know I have often though about the military service to our country and I am always so thankful for the men and women who proudly served and serve. Have you ever though about what kind of life we would have with out or military. Have you ever lain down at night in your house and in your neighborhood with your family and worried about an enemy plane flying overhead and dropping bombs, no and that because of our military! I am proud to be an American and I am proud of every Veteran, the ones I know, the ones I knew and the ones I hope to know. God bless each and every Veteran and their families. Tell a Veteran thank you and pray for them, their families and all of our military.

Well another large amount of time has past. I know that many of you have a certain day to read the blog and for messing up your system I am sorry. I have to tell you since I have retired and felling better I don’t know when I had time to work!

Well I pulled a new stunt this time going to Charleston for the check up. I talked with Ole Bum and he said he would ride down, I tempted him about the shrimp and grits, but we left Possum Kingdom at 0600hrs and arrived at the hospital at 0930hrs. My first appointment was at 1015hrs but they went ahead and took me for my chest X-ray. We then left the hospital and went to the doctor’s office, my appointment there was at 1115hrs but we got there about 1000hrs, but they took me on back. I spoke with the surgeon and he stated that he had reviewed the X-ray and he seen no fluid, he listen to my lungs and said I think we got it right this time, Praise God. I am still not back to feeling 100% but I fell much better. The thing we pulled was we drove back home the same day.

Praise God for my Gift I received from Shawn Bissell and his family.

Thank each one of you for your prayers and support.

Good Night and God Bless You,
